Fair Work Australia / Australian Industrial Relations Commission
What does this Commission do?
The Commission is an independent national tribunal dealing with employment issues.
From 1 July 2009 Fair Work Australia assumed many of the functions of the AIRC.
Essentially, Fair Work Australia will replace:
- The Australian Industrial Relations Commission;
- The Australian Fair Pay Commission;
- The Workplace Ombudsman;
- The Workplace Authority; and
- The Australian Building and Construction Commission.
The AIRC will continue until 31 December 2009 to complete outstanding matters – in particular award modernisation.
Fair Work Australia
Fair Work Australia is the national workplace relations tribunal. It is an independent body with power to carry out a range of functions relating to employment issues such as:
- The safety net of minimum wages and employment conditions
- Enterprise bargaining
- Industrial action
- Dispute resolution
- Termination of employment
- Other workplace matters.
Commission’s Location
The commission has an office in each state in Sydney it is located on Level 8, Terrace Tower, 80 William Street.
