What does this court do?
The High Court is the highest court in the land. Its function is to interpret and apply the law that governs Australia. It further decides cases which are of special federal significance such as the constitutional validity of law. It also hears appeals by special leave from the Federal, State and Territory courts.
Who can appear?
Those who wish to appeal and appear at the High Court must persuade the court in a preliminary hearing that there are special reasons to cause the appeal to be heard. There is not automatic right to appear.
